Question: I
already have Adobe Acrobat Reader
installed on my computer to download tax forms and instructions from the IRS,
and I suspect everyone else in the tax business does as well. Why are you offering an Adobe Reader download here, and why are
sending me an additional copy on the installation diskette/CD-ROM?
Answer:
Some users still have early versions of Adobe Acrobat reader -- in some cases as early as version 1.0!
While they may still work for some applications, for best results Adobe
Acrobat Reader version 4.05 or later should be used to view or print this user manual.
We noted, for example, that the clarity of the diagrams and screen
pictures in this manual was far better using the 4.05 version instead of the
older 3.0 version.
Also,
some State tax departments began requiring version 4.0 or later to download their forms
for tax year 2000. If you have not reported in those states in the
intervening years, you could still be using version 3.0.
We
supply the file on the installation CD just to permit our customers to avoid
even the minor inconvenience of having to download the latest Adobe Reader from
the Internet. And we offer it here just in case this is a convenient time
and you want to download it immediately. Either way, it's free.
if you would like to download the most current
version of the FREE Adobe
Acrobat Reader right now. Depending on the operating system you are
running, this could be as new as version 8.0.1. If you are running an older
version of Acrobat Reader and your computer is running Windows XP, for example,
you will see real improvements if you upgrade.
